If you are a nature lover then you must visit Moti Jharna, Sahibganj. The place is known for its natural scenic beauty, which serves as a good relaxation spot for many tourists. Moti Jharna is situated near the town of Maharajpur which is around 10 kms from Sahibganj. This spot is also considered to be a very beautiful picnic spot. The stream found its source from the Rajmahal hills. The three cascading waterfalls from a height of 50 m are main attraction of the place. This site is maintained by Sahibganj Forest Division.

Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary (Hazaribagh)

The Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary is the most renowned Sanctuary in the region, which is situated at a distance of 135 kms from Ranchi. The Sanctuary has a total of wild animal species such as wild boar, sambara, nilgai, chital, sloth bear, etc. at an average altitude of 615 meters.

The NH-33 runs 111-km across the nature park, taking tourists to the farthest corners and watchtowers around water holes and artificial salt leaks are deliberately positioned for the purposes of tiger sightings.

A number of watchtowers to view the forest and wild life have been constructed and a Forest Rest House built at Rajderwah, 18 miles, from Hazaribagh.

Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary (Jamshedpur)

Dalma Hills are situated at a distance of approx 13 km from Jamshedpur and is one of the most frequented tourist destinations in the land. It is situated at an altitude of 3000 ft.  The views from the hills are breathtaking.

The dense forests, wildlife sanctuary and Lord Shiva temple attract tourists in great numbers. Trekking and rock climbing are two activities that adventure enthusiasts can engage in. Winter is the ideal season to visit.

Close to Jamshedpur, the Dalma Sanctuary is the best elephant habitat in Jharkhand. The pachyderms love to spend their summer here. Unlike Palamau that usually reels under a scorching sun, it continues to be pleasant at Dalma with temperatures mostly under 300C. Elephants migrate to this sanctuary because of the availability of water during summer. The next best choice for getting the closest possible view of elephants is the Betla National Park, and the most appropriate time for doing this would be Feb-March.

Udhwa Lake Bird Sanctuary (Sahebganj)

Udhwa Lake Bird Sanctuary is located in a small village called Udhwa in the Sahebganj district of Jharkhand. It is located at the flood plain of the river Ganga. Udhwa is named after Saint Uddhava, a friend of Lord Krishna in Mahabharatha.

It is the only bird sanctuary in the state of Jharkhand. The sanctuary attracts many different varieties of birds from different countries during the dry season of the year. The best time to visit Udhwa Lake Bird Sanctuary is from October to May because you can witness both the beautiful Indigenous as well as Migratory birds.

Saranda Forest (West Singhbhum)

Saranda, the largest Sal forest in Asia, is located 122 kms from Jamshedpur. Famed for its multifarious flora and fauna, it has also been in the limelight due to its rich mineral reserve. Saranda, meaning ‘the land of seven hundred hills’ is spread over around 900 sq. kms and has mesmerised and fascinated nature-enthusiasts for decades. The spectacular sunset, here against the backdrop of tall dark silhouettes of Sal, would simply make you gaze wide eyed as the sky dons the hues of crimson, orange and grey, before the flaming ball of fire calls it off for the day.

Situated on the southern border of the state, the forest is home to endangered species of flying lizards and hundreds of elephants and is also an integral part of the migratory elephant corridor.

Sal, Mahua and Kusum are the major trees found in the forest, which is also home to the Ho tribe, and used to be a private hunting ground for the erstwhile royal family of Seraikela.

The main access point for getting into Saranda forest by road is Chaibasa, 60 kms southwest of Jamshedpur. Saranda can also be reached via the towns of Chakradharpur (89 kms from Jamshedpur) and Manoharpur (170 kms from Jamshedpur), on the main Bombay-Howrah rail line.

This is the place where your heart dons wings….as a bird set free from the urban dungeons, it soars over hills and vales, tapping the rhythm of the wild hilly rivulets. It leaps way ahead of your head transporting you along on its flights of fancy. Needless to say, the Netarhat Plateau on the upper was, “Near to the Heart” of the erstwhile British soldiers too, that reminded them of their Scottish moors back home. Dense forests, serpentine roads, cool bracing breeze,  nights may have probably prevailed upon the English to christen the place as Nature’s heart or Netarhat. However, some argue that the place has been named after ‘NeturHaat which means a marketplace for bamboo in the local language. Located at about 3622 feet high in Latehar District about 156 kms West of Ranchi, it was once the sumer retreat of the British Governor. Satpura range from Central India, meets the Chotanagpur plateau on the eastern side, at Netarhat is also the home of various primitive tribes, who had been residing in its hills for generations, in close harmony with nature.

It located at a distance of half kilometer to one km from the Netarhat bus stand. As you wait in anticipation for that memorable rendezvous with the sun, you suddenly observe the hills and trees appearing as dark silhouettes against the clearing horizon. And lo and behold! The nature around you is gradually steeped in a reddish hue… then as you watch spellbound the passing shades of vibrant scarlet and orange…. From behind the hills in front the crimson ball suddenly appears in its full flamboyance and glory to greet you. Even the moonrise seen on full moon nights from here is a long cherished experience.

On reaching Netarhat, take the road from the bus stand leading to the tourist bungalow – Hotel Prabhat Vihar.

Adding to the ambience of the place is the poignant love story of Magnolia, a young British girl who fell desperately in love with a tribal shepherd boy. A granite plaque narrates how Magnolia's love for the poor shepherd drew the ridicule of the girl's English community. Realising that her love would remain unfulfilled she chose to end her life by diving into the alley along with her horse. Magnolia Point is located around 10 KM from the town's main bus stand.

Ideal for picnics, fishing and bird watching is the Netarhat Dam, located 2 KM from the bus stand. The dam has been providing water supply to the region since the time of the British Raj.

Koel View Point, Netarhat (Latehar)

Once in Netarhat, it is hard to resist the charm of the River Koel. It is about 2 KMS form the bus-stand in between the jungles of Chirpines reaches you to the Koel View Point. The river flows about 10 kms below the site. Origination from a local hilly village Tutua Paani, the sun osculate waters share the spectacle of dawn and twilight, reflecting the myriad hues of the rising and setting sun. from deep crimson to fiery orange, or just the lilac and azure of a cloudless sky , the clear waters of the river mirror the passing moods of a nature at its scintillating best. Do not forget to watch the river during moonlit nights as well, when the water seems to get transformed into a silvery stream. Located on the banks of the river are clusters of small villages as Saarna Toli, Chaatan Jori resided by the primitive tribes that compel you to scribble some brisk notes or go for random shots with your camera, capturing their interesting ways of life.

Patratu Dam (Ramgarh)

Patratu Dam 30 km to the west of Ramgarh this dam was constructed with the purpose of supplying water to Patratu Thermal Power Station. Water from the river Nalkarni and from the waterfalls of the hills surrounding this dam is stored in this dam. The total storage capacity of this dam is 81 square miles. It is a beautiful tourist spot and throughout the year particularly during the winter season a large member of people visit here for picnic. There is a circuit house beside the dam. The Panchawahini temple adjacent to the dam is an ancient temple and significant for its religious value. This dam is also known as Nalkarni dam which presents beautiful scenes owing to its beautiful sceneries and serpentine ways made on the hills which borders the dam from 3 sides.

Patratu Valley lies at a distance of approx. 40 KMS from Ranchi. The scenic view of Patratu is breathtaking, with its lush greenery, mesmerizing views, and misty mountains.

The trip to this lovely spot is almost as beautiful as the valley, with glimpses of sparkling water and meandering roads.

It is one of the most picturesque sites in Jharkhand. Patratu is a fantastic place to visit in the winter from October to March and enjoy its splendor in a nice and cool atmosphere.

With over 350 hot springs on the border of this country, it makes an exciting destination for tourists to venture into the comforting pool of Mother Nature. There are supposed to be as many as 60 hot springs in Jharkhand.

Tattapani Hot Water Spring is located in Jagram village, 11 Km away from the Latehar district of Jharkhand. It is a beautiful place where the Locals and tourists enjoy this hot water bath which is reached in Sulphur and believed to have high medicinal value and is good for the skin.

Considered possessing medicinal values, it is believed that a dip in the hot water can cure skin diseases, joint pains, and fatigue. Hot springs have an especially high mineral content because heated water can hold more dissolved solids. This means a given hot spring can contain everything from calcium, magnesium, silica, lithium, and even radium. 

Regularly soaking in hot springs has been found to reduce eczema itching, redness.

Kamaldah Talab (Latehar)

The Kamaldah Lake is situated at about 35kms from Daltonganj. This construction of this artificial lake took place during the rule of Raja Medini Rai. The presence of lotus in the lake lends it its name. Elephant herds of the Palamau Tiger Reserve are often seen bathing in the lake. Siberian migratory birds arrive here in the winters, it is famous for the beautiful lotus flowers that bloom in it.

Situated in Netarhat, Jharkhand, Koel Viewpoint gives you mesmerizing views of the surroundings, especially of the river Koel. The river flows about 10 kilometers below the site and is a reflection of all the natural wonders around. One of the best sights to witness is to see the sunlight is reflected in myriad ways on the Koel river, especially during the sunset. During moonlight nights, the river seems to be transformed into a silvery stream.

On the banks of the river, there are several villages that accommodate primitive tribes that compel you to bring out your camera and capture their interesting lifestyle.

Suraj Kund (Hot Spring Water) (Hazaribagh)

Surajkund is a hot spring located 60 km away from Hazaribagh. There are a total of five kunds named after the Indian deities, that is, Surya Kund, Ram Kund, Lakshmana Kund, Sita Kund and Brahm Kund. People believe that bathing in the spring water gives a therapeutic effect. The water temperature ranges between 169 and 190 degrees. Winter season is the ideal time to visit this place. A large number of tourists throng to this place in winter.

Dimna lake is a serene spot amidst the Dalma range, an artificial lake in the Steel City of Jamshedpur. There is a dam to flow down the excess water. Water is supplied to the Steel City from this dam. Dimna Lake lies in the Boram Block. The lake is situated near the Dalma Wild life Sanctuary at a mere distance of 13 kms away from the Jamshedpur city area.

It has a facility of boating which makes the place very popular. Boating in the calm lake seeing the tall standing Dalma range and greenery around, makes it perfect place to find peace. Tourists   visit   this   lake especially during November to February. When the weather is chilly. The fog covered hills are a beauty to gaze at. The whole scene looks like a portrait and tourists are amazed by the place. The lake is pretty well-known as a picnic spot with its clear water and scenic surroundings, making it just right for mini treks into the hills, and water activities such as rowing, and jet skiing among many others.

Topchanchi Lake (Dhanbad)

Located about 37 kms from Dhanbad, Topchanchi Lake is bliss in solitude, and an avian paradise. Surrounded by green hillocks and plalash forests, this man-made lake was built in 1924, during the days of British Raj.

To this day, it provides water to the major parts of the coal-city. The water body is now maintained by Coal Mining Area Development Authority. The nearest railway station at Gomoh, is just 6 kms away. It is the same historic site from where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose boarded a train on Jan. 18, 1941, for his departure from India, disguised as a Pathan LIC agent. The railway station has been christened in his name and two bust sized statues of the leader have been installed both in the railway station and in the Topchanchi market.

In order to reach the lake, you may get down at Gomoh railway station and take a trekker or hire auto to Topchanchi.

Jharkhand is among India’s leading megalith destinations whose history is slowly being unraveled, much to the delight of archaeological and culture buffs.

Hargaddi Chokahatu is home to the largest megalith site in Jharkhand. The tribals of Jharkhand build dolmens over cremated bones which they call 'sasandiris', and Chokahatu is known for them. From table-tops to large menhirs and dolmens, you’ll find varied types of megaliths spread across Chokahatu’s 'hargarhi' or burial ground. Used by the Mundas since ancient times, this living burial site is 70km southeast of  Ranchi. Its lazy sprawl of eight acres is dotted with as many as 8,000 stones, of which several are burial slabs and many are dolmens.

Surrounded by verdant hills and rivers, the megaliths of Jharkhand is truly a sight to behold.

Hizla Pahar (Dumka)

The town of Dumka is fenced by thr beautiful Hizla Pahar. A tribal fair known as the State Tribal Hizla Mela Festival is conducted every year in the month of February here.Hizla Mela was started by British District Magistrate John Roberts Casteres with an objective to understand the local traditions, customs and social regulation.The Jharkhand government decided to commemorate this fair as a festival in 2008 and in 2015, this fair was given the status of the state fair.

The fair speaks volume about the tribal culture and traditions.

Srishti Pahar Park located in Dumka, famous among the famous tourist places of Jharkhand state, is located at a distance of just 4 km from Dumka district. This park is built on the Kurva hill. Tourists visit this spot to witness the scenic sunset on the backwaters of Masanjor Dam. Boating is also enjoyed by tourists here. The view of the hills and the collection of rare plants are the major attractions of this park. This is a popular spot in Dumka for spending quality time with family and friends in a natural setting during the holidays.

Nandan Pahar is an amusement park built on top of a hill in the district of Deoghar in Jharkhand, India. It is famous as a picnic spot with several activities for one and all. One can have fun on one of the joy rides or go boating in the region or offer their prayers at the Nandi Temple. The park has frequent visitors from nearby localities from almost all age groups because there is something for everyone here. Sunrises are a treat to the eyes as the rising sun sets its rays towards the earth to illuminate every corner of Nandan Pahar. Sunsets are mesmerizing too as the sun gently fades away letting the starlit skies take over.

Nandan Pahar consists of a garden, a pond, and serves as an amusement or recreational park with several joy rides that one can enjoy amidst the lush green garden. The theme houses at the park must be visited too.

Tagore Hill (Ranchi)

Named after the great poet Rabindranath Tagore, Tagore Hill is the perfect spot to admire the city from. It is said that Tagore used to frequently visit these hills in order to enjoy the solitude and write his books. Situated at a height of about 300 feet, it is famous for adventure sports like rock climbing and trekking. As it is located away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it is an ideal spot for family picnics as well.

Visitors have to climb around 200-250 stairs in order to reach the top.  Once you reach the top, the view of the distant mountains is unrivaled. Visitors can also enjoy a bird’s eye view of Ranchi from the top of the hill. The lush greenery surrounding the hill also adds to its beauty. Not to mention, the breathtaking sunsets that can be enjoyed from up there. At the base of the hills is the famous Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, along with the Agrarian Vocational Institute and a center for Divyayan.

Saranda is full of exciting and colourful flora and fauna. It is khown and famous for its majestic Sal trees. The main aim behind the construction of the park is to conserve fossils, generating awareness about the importance of fossil preservation, eco-tourism promotion and livelihood opportunity creation for locals here. These fossil remains are estimated to be about 145-200 million years old. The park has several facilities including a museum-cum-auditorium, a mini laboratory and an eco-tourism complex.

One of India’s earliest tiger reserves (1974), Betla features luxuriant tropical forest cover and a rich variety of fauna.

The Betla National Park, was first established as a sanctuary and later upgraded to it’s present status. Average elevation is about 1000 feet and though the park is open throughout the year the best time to visit is between November to March. Spread over 250 sq. kms., the park is covered with good roads cris-crossing each other, to enables the motorist to have a closer view of the wild life in dense forests.

Gour, Chital, Elephant, Tiger, Panther, Sloth and Wild Bear, Sambhar, Nilgai, Kakar, Mouse Deer are permanent residents. Langurs are present in large families.

Betla features waterfalls and natural hot springs on one hand, and historical monuments including a 16th century fort of Chero kings on the other.

Spread across a vast area, it is divided into various sections such as the Rose Garden, the Aquatic Park and the Chinese Garden, all of which are worth visiting. It even has a children’s park to keep your young ones entertained. If you are lucky, you might even get to buy some delicious tidbits from the tribal women selling their fare.

Birsa Biological Park (Ranchi)

Ranchi as the city with natural topology and extreme greenery is endowed with one of the marvelous tourist spots, Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park. It is an eventful place situated in the lap of nature. Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park is spread over the area of 104 hectare land on the excursion of Ranchi. It is comprised of two halves; one is zoological park while other half is a botanical park. The large area is dedicated for the enclosures of animals while small area on the other side is given for rare species of plants and trees.

The most significant feature is Getalsud Dam located on southern side and Sapahi, a seasonal sea encompassing from other sides. The park has been developed in Ranchi to educate people regarding wildlife along with information about forest conservation.

Birsa Deer Park, Kalamati (Khunti)

The Deer Park is located in a beautiful sal forest of Kalamati of Khunti district and in hardly 20 Kms away from the Capital city in the Ranchi-Khunti road. The geography and vegetation provides a natural habitat for the deer for breeding in captivity. The Deer Park is spread in an area of about 54 acre. 

The Deer Park has never looked back in attracting tourists from the year 1987 when the doors were opened for the tourists. Deer park has been tourist attraction for its natural beauty and close prominently to Ranchi and Khunti.

The main tree species here is Sal associated with Ficus spp., Ber, Bel, Neem etc. A Children Park developed near the main entrance is the great source of attraction for children. Three watch-towers have been provided inside the Park for viewing wildlife. A canteen and other public utilities have also been created for visitors.

Nakshtra Van (Ranchi)

Nakshtra-Van It is situated in the heart of the town close to the Governor House. Its adjoining area has been developed to accommodate an integrated man-made forest. It was constructed in the year 2003 by the State Government. There are children's parks, gardens, artificial hillocks, waterfalls and a musical fountain, along with a garden containing over 40 selected medicinal plants. It is a park constructed by the Jharkhand Forest Department. This park comprises of various Nakshatras, each of which is associated with a Zodiac sign and celestial bodies. According to Hindu astrologers, each constellation is associated with a tree that is of medicinal, aesthetic, social and economic value. The Centre of this circle also has a musical fountain with a huge pot collecting all its water. It also has various species of flowers planted along its pathway. Its Centre also has a sleeping statue of Dhanvantari.

Crocodile Park (Ranchi)

Muta crocodile breeding centre is one the famous tourist attraction in Ranchi. It is situated at 35 kms from Ranchi on Ormanjhi - Sikidiri road at Muta.

The main purpose of the breeding centre is to conserve the endangered species and safeguard them from being destructed. The park is situated in the outskirts of the city. A rare species of marsh crocodiles was first spotted in late 1960's in the Bhera River which flows close to the city of Ranchi. Thereby the government decided to start a breeding centre to enhance the number of marsh crocodiles, in the region. The centre started its research with 5 crocodiles, two from the Bhera River while three were brought in from the madras crocodile bank. The centre has 42 crocodiles.

The Centre can be reached easily through public transport by taking the Ranchi-Ramgarh Road. One needs to book a cab or an auto to reach and return from the attraction or one can opt to reach the attraction making use of the state run bus, by boarding the bus at major bus stations in the city.

Since the Centre is situated on the outskirts of Ranchi, the institute has made provisions for a small forest rest house and a rest shed to cater to the needs of the visitors who visit it using their own mode of transport.
