Ranchi East Division was constituted with its headquarter at Ranchi in the year 1964. The Working plan of this division was written for the period 1963-64 to 1983-84 by Sri R N Kapoor. At the time of creation, Ranchi East Division, it got following ranges namely Khunti, Tamar, Jariya, Bero, Ranchi West and Ranchi East. In the year 2004 Ranchi East Division was divied in two divisions namely Khunti Forest Division and Ranchi East Forest Division. Ranchi East Forest Division was reconstructed in 2004 with four ranges namely Burmu, Ranchi afforestation Range, Bero, Ranchi West Range, Kanke and Ranchi East Range, Mahilong.
This Division lies between 84° 52' to 85° 53' East Longitude and 23° 01' to 23° 43' North Latitude.The total forest area of Ranchi Forest Division is about 715.67 sq KM. The Range wise distribution of forest area is as below :
